If you are sympathetic towards immigrants, specifically the children of immigrants – children who were brought here illegally, I have some good news. There are a variety of different organization you can donate to.
These organization work to bring positive change to the lives of immigrants, providing them with educational material and securing their place in society.
Below is a list of incredible charitable organization that spend their time advocating, representing, and lobbying on behalf of immigrants and their children.
The Frontera Fund
The Frontera Fund was created by two journalists in Arizona.
The story of the foundation of The Frontera Fund is certainly interesting. Joe Arpaio, the former Sheriff of Maricopa County, was abusing immigrants as if it was his job. Arpaio was eventually found guilty of criminal charges stemming from the way he treated immigrants, but he was pardoned by Donald Trump.
The founders of The Frontera Fund, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, had a personal run-in with Joe Arpaio. As journalists, Lacey and Larkin were attempting to unseat Joe Arpaio. They were trying to accomplish this goal by writing about him in their newspaper: The Phoenix New Times.
When Joe Arpaio had them arrested for their efforts in journalism, they were awarded nearly four million dollars. This money was used to create The Frontera Fund and help immigrants.
Now, The Frontera Fund works with dozens of other organizations to provide educational material to immigrants all over the State of Arizona.
Mariposas Sin Fronteras
Mariposas Sin Fronteras is an organization that works for a niche audience: immigrants who are also members of the LGBTQ community. Like The Frontera Fund, this organization is based in Arizona.
LBGTQ detainees face harsher punishment than other immigrants. Even in the normal American jail system, LBGTQ people face harsher consequences.
Mariposas Sin Fronteras translates to Butterflies without Borders.
National Immigration Law Center
This is one of the biggest group of pro-bono attorneys in the country. They take on cases for immigrants, helping them secure their place in society free of charge.
Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights
As we all know, children are being separated from their parents at the border. ICE agents even lost 1,500 children in the system recently. The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights lobby to keep children in the country instead of deporting them. Often, children are deported back to their home countries even if their parents are still in the country. This organization works to end this practice, allowing children to remain in the country.
Immigrant Defense Project
This organization offers a variety of services to immigrants, but they focus on raising social awareness concerning immigration. Educating citizens about the realities of immigration is a very important task, and the Immigrant Defense Project doesn’t shy away from their goals.
